Dr. Venerable Baddegama Samitha was born on 14th September 1952 at Baddegama in Galle District. His Parents were Coranelis Dias Thereema Withana and Gammeddegoda Liyanage Lily Nona. He entered the order on Saranankara and Venerable Welivitiye Sugathapala. He Studied at Vidyalankara University and Lancaster University In England. He holds a doctorate in Comparative Religions and Development in Third World Countries. He has a Degree in Political Science.
After his Studies he joined the Samasamaja Pary which was headed by N.M. Perera, Colvin R de Silva, Philip Gunawardene and Leslie Gunawardene and Leslie Gunawardene brothers. Samasamaja Pary introduce the Leftist country. In 1977 he was arrested for leading struggles as a Central Committee member of the Lanka Samasamaja party.
